Playful Pine

$200.00

My mom was all about the yard, plants, especially the flower beds, and most especially her rose garden.

In my growing up years, our house was at the end of a long driveway with a pasture between us and the road.

Roses lined the driveway on one side of our house. Beautiful roses that grew in the California sunshine, with just the right amount of manure from the dairy, and my mom’s tender care.

Cut roses brought the beauty and scent indoors, somehow a reflection of my mom’s beauty and care.

I lived in Africa for the first part of my adult life and did not own a home in the US until returning stateside in 1999. It was very exciting to put down roots!

We located in Dallas, hot Dallas, with temperatures over 100F from July - Sept.

I had visions of beautiful plants growing outside a glass door on the side of our house. Since my mom was The Plant Expert, when she came for a visit, I asked her what I should plant there, expecting a definitive answer.

Her response surprised me, “You just have to see what grows here.”

It all depends on context.

So true! Plants, or people, flourish when they’re in just the right spot, with the right amount of light and water, the right soil that suits their individual needs.

Sometimes I feel like this ‘Playful Pine’—flourishing in just the right conditions!
